My 1st 2nd Person POV Story

Hey Guys!

So a few semesters ago I took a creative writing class that I thought would be a fun class.  (really and truly it was a fun, but it was also a ton of work, especially during the semester that I took it in.)  One of the things that I had to do was write a 2nd Person POV story.  This was the first time I’ve ever written in this way, I’ve written other stories before but never in 2nd person.  I had fun writing it and after a while got the hang of which words to use (because you aren’t supposed to use I in this and that was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.) and which ones that I had to steer clear of.

So for today’s post I thought I’d share one of my original stories with you to see what ya’ll think of it.

The Unknown

You wake up inside a room.  You’re not sure where you are or how you got there.  What are you doing here?  You look around the room and notice that you are the only one there.  Weren’t you with somebody before this?  You feel scared as you realize that you can’t remember.  You cross over to the other side of the room.  Looking around you take notice of the chairs that are on one side, old and rickety as they are.  You keep looking, for what you are unsure.  On the other side of the room there is a large mirror that is hanging on the wall on top of a table.  You cross over to look into it.

The person staring back at you looks unfamiliar, you began to feel even more afraid as you realize you don’t know who you are.  Your reflection is dim because there is very little light.  But you see your dark hair and dark brown eyes.  The look on your face shows the true fear that you are possessed of right now.  You are dressed in jeans that have rips in them a green t-shirt and black converse.  You turn away from the mirror and look around again.  Should you stay in this room, was there a reason for you being here? Or was there another reason.  You make the decision to leave the room, to go look around and maybe find a way out.

It’s grey outside, and dreary as you wander around the deserted amusement park.  How did you get here?  You barely notice the rain as it lightly hits you.  The air is cold as you walk, biting in its lightness as it hits you.  Should you turn here, or should you go back where you came from?

How long have you been wandering around? Five minutes? Thirty? An hour? More? Lost, that is what you feel.  And sad, and scared. You’re not sure why but something around you is scaring you.  You wonder where is everybody?  Are there others here, lost and lonely?

Keep on going is what you tell yourself.  The exit is somewhere, you just have to find it.  Did someone trap you here?  Is that why you are here?  You were…. Where were you before you were here?  You make a turn down a path and you come to an empty pool.  You look at it and its nothing but concrete, cold and hard.

The grey stone is almost matches the exact color of the sky that is raining down on you.  Wrong turn… you turn around and go back the other way, maybe the way out is that way.  As you keep on going, you look around.  You’re still unsure how long you have been here.  All you are sure of is that you are getting hungry.  Will you find your way out before it is too late?

As you wander you take in your surroundings.  The ground seems to be made of a cobbled stone, except for the weeds that are poking through the cracks.  The park actually seems to be overtaken by nature.  Everywhere you look there is some kind of green or brown in some places that are taking back the grounds.  The trees seemed to be never-ending, you can’t actually see where one ends and the others begin seemingly blending into the abandoned building.

You find a building that looks like might hold some hope for you.  You reach forward to check the door.  It was massive, large and wooden with an intricate design.  Kind of like it was pulled from some past place.  There were vines that decorated the top and bottom panels, and three center panels that each held a carving of an animal.  One held a wolf, another a bear, the last an eagle.     Will it be unlocked?  But no, it’s locked.  There must be something.  Anything, that can lead you to the outside.  You keep on going… but each building, everything you come to is locked.

You keep on going, the buildings seem to almost be frozen in time.  On one side you look and see stone walls, all painted in fading colors of blue, red and orange.  These buildings had spire looking towers and roofs.  Each held and opening that was sealed with massive wooden doors.  Each one locked as you check.  You decide that maybe you should check somewhere else.  So you head in a different direction.

This new direction you see colossal structures that seem to have taken on an orange-ish hue due to the amount of rust that encase the metal.  The one that looms in front of you is large and circular.  Looking at it the name for it pops into your head.  Farris Wheel.  It looked like a giant tire wheel with spokes in the middle.  Only it had baskets that at one time would have hordes of people lining to get into, so that they could feel as if they were flying.  It was rusted, but was probably painted in pink or red in its prime.  Probably a color that would make people feel happy and laugh.  Not a feeling that you were getting right then.

You look around.  You are confused.  Why would you even be here to begin with?  You don’t understand what is going on.  You decide to rest.  Maybe resting for a while will restore some of your strength.

It is dark when you wake up again.  You didn’t mean to fall asleep, you just wanted to rest.  Now you are certain that you are hungry.  You get up and look around, there has to be somewhere that has food.  Something that will ease the ache in your belly.  You sometimes wonder if maybe it would have been better if you hadn’t woken up.  You would not be like this.

You come to a building that looks promising.  There are vending machines.  You look around for something that could possibly break the glass.  But then you stop… what is that … what is that?  You look around, there it was again.  A noise.  A noise that you had not heard before.  It stops.  Maybe it was nothing.  You look around again.  You begin notice your surroundings.  You see the shadows playing at the walls.  You look around for what was casting it, and you see … nothing.  There should be something. Shouldn’t there?  You hear it again, that noise that nothing is making.  Should you go looking for the noise?  You decide that maybe that isn’t a good idea so instead you continue to look for something to break the glass.  You finally find a rock.  Will it be big enough?  You are not sure, but you have to try.

It took you a few tries but you finally broke the glass.  You grab a few things to eat for right then and wedge yourself into the space between the wall and the machine.  At least here there was cover, you aren’t getting wet.  As you eat you decide that maybe you should stay where you are for a while.  Eating something has made you sleepy all of a sudden.  Sleep sounds really good. Deciding that staying here wedged between the wall and the machine is probably safer than finding a bench. You decide that maybe tomorrow will be better.  You close your eyes to sleep.

It looks like it is barely morning when you wake up.  The sun is starting to show through the abandoned rides, and the trees that had overtaken the park.  You look around, and decided to grab something to eat from the machine.  As you eat, you think that maybe you should grab some more to bring with you.  You are not sure you will be able to find this place again if you leave it.

You leave your haven… you hesitate.  Should you leave here?  You were safe here.  There is a place to stay dry and there was food.  But you push forward anyway.  Today you decide that maybe you should go in another direction.  So you go … and go… and go.  You keep walking, grateful for the fact that there is no rain today.  Being wet and cold another day was not something that you had been looking forward to.

You lose track of the time as you wander.  How long have you been here?

You are beginning to lose hope when you see it.  What you have been searching for.  It looks large from where you stand, it looked so far away.  Is that a wall?

You rush forward… it is a wall.  Just over that side could be that answer that you are looking for.  But wait… what if the other side is worse than what you have already endured?  Should you just stay here… in this abandoned and broken semblance of a world?  Is the unknown you have been searching for worth it?

You come up to the wall.  You hesitate… you reach forward and touch it.  It doesn’t look that high.  Could you climb it? Probably.  You hesitate again.  You could fall, slip and break something.  But if you stay here you would be alone. Is the unknown worth it?

You wait and back up.  You walk over to the base of the wall and reach out.  It was weathered, a type of stone that stood up well to the elements.  It was rough beneath your hands.  There seemed to be plenty of places that you could slide your hands and your feet.  Deciding that whatever is on the other side.  What you find, it has to be better than what is here.  You begin your ascent.

What you never see is the paper sitting at the base of the wall, right near to where you were.  On it was written in bright red,

Don’t let them see you’re afraid!

Well.  What did you think?  I had fun writing this and surprisingly everyone in class actually liked it. (which was rare in my class, we never agreed on anything.)  Question of the Day: Have you ever considered writing or taken a class like creative writing that required you to write stories or poems?  Comment down below.

#Finishline Release Day

Hey Guys!

Welcome to an extra blog post for this week.  Today is the release of Cambria Hebert’s new book #Finishline.  She surprised us all with news of this book and I can’t believe it’s really here.  This book is the 5th in the #GearShark series.  One that we have been paitently waiting for since she told us of it. (even if it’s only been a few weeks…)  Now for a bit of background on our wonderful and amazing author, she was a busy author in 2016 and released 7 books (that I know of).  She has done all this and still has found the time for interacting with us on Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. Cambria Hebert is incredible! Anyway, enough of my rambling.  Without further ado, here is the post on the Release on #Finishline!

#FinishLine
Author: Cambria Hebert
Series: (GearShark #5)
Publication date: February 27th 2017
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Every race has a finish line.

Where you go after you cross it is what matters most.

And sometimes, that’s the most intriguing.

Here at GearShark, we’ve featured lots of drivers.

All of them are well acquainted with the finish line.

And as race fans, we’re well acquainted with cheering as they cross it.

What we aren’t privy to is riding shotgun, seeing where they drive once the race is over.

Our interviews barely scratch the surface,

offering just a glimpse of the men and women behind the wheel.

The discovery of vanished Motocross sensation Jayson Hamilton,

who has been right under our noses for years, proves secrets abound.

It’s time to dig deep. Look beyond the racetrack at the drivers who continue to pique our interest. In addition to scoring an exclusive, all-access interview with the elusive Jayson Hamilton (his first and only since the death of his fellow racer and partner Matt Lewis),

we’ve caught up with some of our most popular featured men and women in the racing world.

Where are they now?

Who are they now?

What do these hot commodities do when they escape the spotlight?

Rumors of weddings, babies, and new tattoos swirl through the media on a weekly basis.

And though we’re headlining the hashtag #Finishline, we’re far from finished.

In fact, we’re just getting started.

This newest issue of GearShark is jam packed with everything you’ve been dying to know…

and it just might be our biggest page-turner yet.

Hopper

“What’s wrong?” he demanded the second I opened the door.

“Nothing,” I said and motioned for him to come in.

He pulled off his Oakleys and slid one earpiece beneath the neck of his dark-blue T-shirt so they were out of his hands and stepped into the apartment.

His eyes searched out his brother, wanting to be sure all was well.

“He isn’t here,” I said and shut the door.

Lorhaven turned. “Where is he?”

“Meeting,” I replied.

“Why aren’t you there?” He scrutinized.

“Because I didn’t need to be.” I cleared my throat. “And, I, ah, wanted to talk to you. Alone.”

His eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Why?”

Arrow’s big brother was an asshole. It wasn’t anything new to me, and his constant suspicious demeanor didn’t offend me like it used to. I understood his extreme overprotective nature when it came to Arrow (and Joey). I even respected it.

There was a time when I doubted we would ever get along. Hell, sometimes I still doubted it. But ever since the day I raced across the track to pull Arrow out of a multicar pile-up, things were different between me and Lorhaven.

Friendlier.

He welcomed me to the family that day, and since then, he’d backed up his handshake with actions. Arrow and I hung out with him and Joey regularly, something I knew meant a lot to A. To me, too.

Joey was my first and only real friend since Matt died. The months we’d spent not really speaking had hurt. To have her friendship back along with a new one in Lorhaven gave me the sense of family I’d deprived myself of for so long.

“There’s something I want to ask you,” I said. He made a sound, sort of an agreement, and shrugged out of the jacket to fling it over the back of the couch. “You called me down here because you want to ask me a question?”

“It’s not something I could do over the phone.”

He folded his arms over his chest and regarded me in a way that would probably make a lesser man piss his pants. Lorhaven didn’t intimidate me. He never did, and he never would.

But, uh, yeah… I was anxious right now. “I know how close you are to A.” I began. “He told me you’re more like a dad to him than The Fucker ever was.”

Lorhaven’s arms dropped to his sides. “He told you that?”

I nodded. “Yeah. And honestly, I’m fucking grateful to you for that.”

Shock widened his very dark eyes. I committed the look to memory as I smothered a smile. I’d likely not see that look on his face ever again.

My voice dropped. “I think you were the one thing that stood between Arrow and total shutdown a few years ago.”

“Until you came along,” he replied, gruff.

“Thank you for everything you did for him, for everything you do. I know you already know how much he appreciates you, but now you know I do, too.”

“He’s my family,” he said, like it was all he needed to say.

I half smiled.

“As touching as this is…” Lorhaven studied me. “Why do I get the feeling you want something?”

“Because I do.” I took a deep breath. “I want Arrow.”

He made a sound. “Pretty sure you already got that.”

I shook my head once. “I want to marry him.”

Lorhaven jolted like someone tossed a bucket of ice water over his head. “You wanna what?”

“I’m gonna ask Arrow to marry me, but before I do, I’d like your permission.”

My Favorite Pintrest Boards

Hey Guys!

So I’m pretty sure that I’m not alone in being absolutely obsessed with pintrest.  I’m a pretty eclectic pinner and I probably annoy people when I get on there because if they follow my boards they will all of a sudden be inundated with random pins.  So I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite boards that I regularly update.

  • I have always been one who loves to travel and see new places.  But I rarely get the chance to.  This is the board that I created to give myself some inspiration.

  • As I’ve already said before I’m a history major and I love pretty much anything that has to do with the subject.  One day I would love to see the places in these pictures but until then I love looking at them.

  • Cute Animals…. Need I say more?

  • As well as being a history lover, I also love self expression.  Which is why I love tattoos so much.  I myself have two of them and I’m planning more for whenever I can do them.  I use this board to give myself ideas on what I want or so that I can describe what I want and have the tattooist design something for me.

  • Life Hacks… I love these ideas, and every time I find one that I haven’t seen before it makes me giddy with excitement.

  • writing is a passion of mine, whether it’s poetry or stories that very few people get to read.  I love writing.  This board is dedicated to helping me write.

  • I love the idea of bucket lists.  So this board is the inspiration for mine.

  • You’ve already seen that I love Life Hacks… Well this board is specifically for school life hacks… because one can never have enough of them.

Well these are a few of my favorite boards that I have on my pintrest.  If you would like to see the entire board you can find that here.   I hope you enjoyed your brief glimpse into the black hole that is my pintrest boards (truthfully I should probably clean it up some… eventually).  Question of the Day:  Do you indulge in pintrest, and if you do what is your favorite thing to pin?  Comment down below.

The original Synopsis can be found here.

Drew Forrester is a total adrenaline junkie.

His high of choice?

Cars.

The faster, the better.

He’s been making waves in Maryland’s underground racing circuit since he crossed the state line, and after speaking with him, we know he’s not hitting the brakes anytime soon.

So what exactly does it take to burn rubber and make a name for yourself in a world where the only rule is there are no rules?

You gotta be hungry…

You gotta have balls…

And you can never back down.

What’ve we learned here at GearShark?

Drew is all of the above.

We also know he’s got some secrets buried under his hood.

Secrets we think are loaded with octane and just might set the world of cars on fire.

Check out the full feature article inside…

** This book contains an M/M romance relationship. **

The Review:

Welcome to the first book in Cambria’s spin-off series GearShark.  If you’re picking this one up without the benefit of reading her amazing Hashtag series.  I’d recommend you start with #Nerd first, simply because you’ll be lost without the background of those first. This book is a M/M relationship, so let this be a warning if you don’t like those.  But I think you’d be missing out if you skipped this series just because of that.

In #Junkie you get the very sweet and beautiful story of two best friends falling in love (sometimes while trying to fight it).  I loved the way that Drew and Trent’s relationship starts with a mega bromance friendship.  The way that Cambria portrays their friendship and deep emotional bond can be seen not only from the first page of this book, but also shines through in the every scene they are in (including the #hashtag books they are in!)

Drew is a character that you just want to love, if only for his closeness to his family.  He’s the daredevil who works a computers by day and drives the street races by night.  While Trent is the all american football player and frat president who just wants Drew to be safe.  Their relationship evolves from their deep and long friendship.

Something else that is amazing in this series is the details that are shown in the racing.  Cambria has done an amazing job with the details that just seem to drag the readers in.

I will warn you now that this book ends in a one hell of a cliffhanger (but lucky for you that #Rev is finished and you can read what happens next right away).

This book is a wonderful continuation to characters that we fell in love with in the Hashtag series.  If you haven’t yet jumped onto the #Nerd bandwagon you totally need to soon!  You also get the added benefit of the series being just about complete so you don’t have to wait the long months that we did!

The Original Synopsis can be found here.

Givers gonna give…
Twas the night of game day,
And all through the town,
Lacey glittering snowflakes fluttered around.
They clung to the roads, concealing everything with white.
It was a beautiful #holiday sight.
The paparazzi were out without any care,
In hopes to catch Romeo and Rimmel, rumored to be there.
When out on the road there arose such a clatter.
The Hellcat spun out, but it shouldn’t matter.
I pulled out my cell to dial in a flash.
But the battery was dead. What useless trash.
The moonlight glistening on the new fallen snow
Made us forget we needed a tow.
For the season was upon us. Our family was alight.
Our #holiday was destined to be merry and bright.

Bonus content features FIVE #holiday recipes to make and share!

The Review:

#Holiday was a huge surprise of us #Nerds.  It was Cambria Hebert’s Christmas gift to us in 2015.  She said that she wrote it because it was her way of giving us all a gift we could afford to get. (She only priced it for $.99!)

This isn’t a full length novel, but a short and sweet novella that takes place between #Heart and #Junkie (this isn’t a #Hashtag book, but the spinoff series GearShark).  What we get is a Christmas with all of our favorites, Romeo, Rimmel, Braeden, Ivy, Nova, Trent, and Drew.

If you haven’t read any of the Hashtag books, I wouldn’t recommend starting here.  This book has characters that you wouldn’t know and you’d be lost.  However, if you’re all caught up, this is not a story that you want to miss.

Cambria also adds some bonus recipes at the end for all of us to enjoy!

This book is a wonderful continuation to the Hashtag series, with only one more book to come #Bae, which I’ve already done a Review on.  If you haven’t yet jumped onto the #Hashtag Series bandwagon you totally need to soon!  You also get the added benefit of the series being complete so you don’t have to wait the long months that we did!

My favorite Space: At my home

Hey Guys!

I know I’m not the only one that has a favorite spot that they love to go to in their home.  I’m no exception.  Though I’ve technically got two places that are my favorites only one of them is at my house, the other is at my grandparents house.

My favorite space at my house is actually my back porch.  My mom and grandfather built the porch itself a good 6 or 7 feet away from the house.  It gives a pretty good amount of shade and shelter from the sun and the rain.  And a few months ago my mom decided to diy a pallet floor so that it’s off the ground.

On the back porch we have a fire pit and a patio set that has probably seen better days and an old futon couch that has been recovered more than once.  I love to go out and lay on the couch in the evenings with a pillow and a blanket (during the months of December – March only) and listen to the wind or rain or the silence.  I’ll usually take a book to read or my iPad and either watch a movie or listen to music in the peace and quiet.  Every now and then when it’s cool in the evening we even start up a small fire in the fire pit.

Question of the day: Where is your favorite space in or at your house? Comment down below.

How I afford my Starbucks Habit

Hey Guys!

So I brought this up in my “College Life: Commuting” post, I have a Starbucks problem, and getting my coffee daily can add up.  I’ve cut down on the costs by making my first cup at home.  I have a few favorites that I use with my Keurig but right now my #1 pick is the Starbucks Mocha Caffè Latte k-cup, to which I then add my current favorite creamer International Delight Sweet Cream.  But for the most part I end up paying for my coffee.

  • The first thing that helps me save money is the fact that I downloaded the Starbucks app to keep track of all my Starbucks cards.  Anytime I get a new one I add it to the app and merge it with my main card that is stored on the account.  Using the app helps keep track of what you always order, or your stars (points) that you get whenever you use your card.  The great thing is that when ever you hit 125 Stars then you get a free drink or reward of your choice (Tip: if you are going to get a drink, grab the biggest on they have since it’s free anyway why get a small!)
  • The main way that I that I can afford buying Starbucks as much as I do is that I found a way to earn free gift cards.  It wasn’t too long ago that I found this app called Shopkick… and let me tell you it is amazing!  The images below are from my own Shopkick account… The best thing about this is that you don’t have to buy anything if you don’t want to.  But those items that you do buy help you with more points towards you Shopkick account.  Like at Best Buy you get 2 points for every dollar you spend and the best thing is that there are lots of stores that participate.  This is great for those do nothing weekends where you’re bored, you can take off to the Mall or Wal-Mart or Target and just walk around and scan the barcodes that they have for you and earn points for it.  There are even some stores that give you points just for walking in.

For the most part this is how I’m able to buy as much Starbucks as I do, the other way is that most of my family know that I love Starbucks, so they usually give me gift cards for Christmas or birthdays.  Question of the Day: Are you a coffee addict?  How do you pay your coffee fix ?  Comment down below.

Lovers Gonna Love…

Family isn’t always defined by blood.
Sometimes family is born of love…
Loyalty…
And choice.
Sometimes the bond that comes from someone having your back through the shittiest of times is stronger than anything you get from genetics.
And sometimes you find that piece of your soul you didn’t even know was missing.
I’m a lucky guy like that.
I found a love that will never fade. I found a group of people who aren’t just my friends.
They’ve become my family.
There’s only one place to go from here.
I’m gonna bind myself to Rimmel in every possible way.
I’m gonna bring our family even closer together.
The past has taught me it won’t be easy.
Especially when faced with repercussions from a night that ended in death.
But that’s okay.
Family doesn’t quit each other.
Love like ours never dies.
Happily ever after isn’t just for storybooks.

The Review:

This book was a holy cow moment for most of us #Nerds reading it.  We got to have all of our favorite characters points of view and more drama and wonder all rolled into one big release.  #Heart is the 6th book in the #Hashtag series.  I’m going to try to not give too much away for those who haven’t yet gotten a chance to read the wonderfulness that is #Heart.

This book takes up where #Player and #Poser leave off.  With Romeo proposing to Rimmel and Braeden and Ivy recovering after the events that took place in #Poser. (I know that I’m being vague but I don’t want to give any spoilers for anyone who is reading this and hasn’t gotten to #Poser yet.)  Cambria has given us the wedding of the century based in her little Hashtag world.

But that’s not all, we also get the added drama of the #Buzzboss (really if you haven’t read the series yet you really should, because we find out who the Buzzboss is in #Poser!) trying to mess with our favorite characters as well as other drama that is being had and surprises that pop up for them as well.

#Heart is amazing in the strength of love you get from all of the characters not only with the couples but with the best friends… their #family that they hold together.

This book is a wonderful continuation to the Hashtag series, with only two more books to come.  If you haven’t yet jumped onto the #Hashtag Series bandwagon you totally need to soon!  You also get the added benefit of the series being complete so you don’t have to wait the long months that we did!

ABOUT #FINISHLINE
