A tale as old as time…

A charismatic man cannot see beyond his own
brilliant reflection, never learning that true beauty lies within.
His selfish behavior draws the ire of a witch with enchantment on her wicked tongue.
A fiery curse is unleashed, engulfing the self-centered man’s entire existence.
When at last the flames are extinguished,
he gazes upon his reflection to discover he is no longer breathtakingly handsome
but condemned with scorched flesh and twisted scars.
He is no longer a man at all… but a beast.
While the ferocious beast rages, alienating everyone far and wide,
a woman whose beauty is far more than skin-deep
dwells in a world much simpler than his.

The beauty’s quiet life is disrupted when she is ambushed, threatened,
and boldly steps in the path of her father’s debt.
However, it’s not the thugs on her tail or the roaring beast
testing her patience that threatens to be this sassy beauty’s downfall.
It’s the way her heart flutters whenever he is near.

But some curses just can’t be broken, and really…
How can she truly ever love a beast?

*Beast is book 4 in the House of Misfits series but it could be read as a standalone. There are mentions of the previous books & plots and the characters from the first three books do make appearances in Beast.

A Fire… A Curse… A Love Story in the Making! So Utterly Obsessed!

If there is one thing that will always happen, it’s me reading Cambria Hebert’s books.  I was super excited when I heard that she was about to release a new book for her House of Misfit’s series.  This is her fourth book in the Series, and while you could read it without reading the others, I really believe that you would be missing out on so many wonderful characters!

While there are so many retellings of Beauty and the Beast, this is one that I feel stands out as different.

We are introduced to Emogen in Huntsman, and you learn to love her for her fierceness and loyalty.  She will handle everything and you can’t stop her.  Ander, we don’t really get to know until this book, but I think he is my new favorite character, although I do love Fletch.

Ander’s struggle is one that everyone can relate and recognize.  I loved how his character rose above where he started and even how he could never seem to make Emogen back down.  It was truly a HEA that I loved to watch happen.

That we also get to see the characters that we have fallen in love with from her other Misfits is just an added bonus!  I loved getting to see BOTH Ethan and Ivory set Ander’s father in his place and seeing Earth in his element was riveting.

Another wonderful and amazing job at weaving the modern world with the fairytales we all grew up with.

Until Next Time!

The Netflix Book Tag

The Netflix Book Tag was originally created by A Darker Shade of Whitney on YouTube, but I thought it sounded like fun so I wanted to give it a go. Make sure you head on over to Whitney’s channel and check it out, or see all these other neat Netflix Book Tag answers from the book blogging community.

1. Recently Watched: The last book you finished reading

My most recently read book I’ve finished is A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro.  It’s been out for a while but this was the first time I read it.  I’ve been trying to up my reading game this year, while still reading old favs!

Book: Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

truly devious

I keep seeing this recommended when I add new books onto my reading list on goodreads. This might be the year that I try it.

3. Recently Added: The last book you bought

Oh geez, what a question.  I just went to half price and picked up a few books.

  1. Many Waters by Madeleine L’Engle
  2. 13 Treasures by Michelle Harrison
  3. Everywhere You Want to Be by Christina June

Books: Mortal Instruments, Cassandra Clare and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

For this question I check out Goodreads and decided to check out this list of Best Young Adult fiction. Two books that I’ve read are The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. And two I haven’t read and don’t really have any interest in reading are The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, and any of Sarah Dessan’s books. They just don’t really appeal. But I’d be down if you can recommend some!

5. Comedies: A funny book

Book: ouch

Ok… I’m not going to lie, I don’t read funny or comedy books.  I mean, most of the books I read have their moments, but they are not in that particular genre.

6. Dramas: A character who is a drama queen/king

Book: Any of the Hashtag books, by Cambria Hebert

Missy… Not only is she a major drama queen, but she’s devious too. She’s one of those characters that you want to hate, because she’s just that good.

7. Animated: A book with cartoons on the cover

Book: Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

Considering that the majority of the books that I read are YA, I have very few that have cartoonish or animated covers. I had to check my kindle for this one. That being said, It was ok. Heartstopper Vol. 1 is part of a series, I think 4 volumes. I finished it about an hour, but I’m still undecided on whether I will be continuing the series.

8. Watch it again: A book/book series that you want to re-read

Books: Harry Potter, Anything by Cambria Hebert, The Sea Breeze Series by Abbi Glines

I know quite a few people that can’t re-read books, but I am not one of those. Every year, I do a massive re-read of the Harry Potter Series. But that is not the only series or book that I read over again. Whenever I get into a reading slump I will grab a book that I know I love and that will get me over it. Even though before recently they didn’t add to your reading books on the GoodReads Challenge I still read them. I’m super excited that these books will be counted too.

9. Documentaries: A non-fiction book you’d recommend to everyone

Book: This Star Won’t Go Out

There aren’t a ton of non-fiction books that I read, this could be because of the books I have to read for my graduate classes (all history books), but when I found this book that the movie and John Green book The Fault and Our Stars was based on I had to read it. I was pretty much in tears the majority of the book, but I loved it anyway.

10. Action and Adventure: An action-packed book

Book: Unknown

Most of the books that I read tend to either be Contemporary Romance, New Adult Romance, maybe some scifi or YA. So I’m not sure if anything that is on my bookshelf or even kindle are action or adventure… Unless you want to count Harry Potter.

11. New Releases: A book that just came out or will be coming out soon that you can’t wait to read

Book: Lore, by Alexandra Bracken

This actually just come out in January – I added this book to my tbr when I heard about it last year. I am a huge Greek mythology nerd… well any type of mythology really. I finally read it in September and I can say that it did not disappoint.

So that was the Netflix Book Tag! I thoroughly enjoyed having a crack at this one.

What would some of your answers be? If you’ve done this book tag before,  link it up in the comments!

My 2021 Reading Year: January – June

Hey Guys!

As I do every year I set myself up with the Goodreads Reading Challenge.  This year I set a goal of 50 books. And then I hit that goal by my Birthday on April 30th.  So I moved my goal to 75… then 100… now it’s at 125…. and depending on how many books I read the remainder of the year, I might up it again.  We’ll see.

I really do need to get better about keeping up with tracking.  This year I’m using the cawpile created by G on booktube and it’s been helping a ton.  And I’ve started a book tracking journal that i’ve been having fun with.  I might share that at the end of the year and show what I’ve done.

January:

February:

March:

April:

May:

June:

Not to bad for the first six months of the year.  I was a bit sad that I only got four read in June, but it was a really BUSY month at work, and my tbr does not seem to be getting smaller either, instead it seems like every week or so I’m adding a new book to my currently reading list. And yes… I am re-reading the Hashtag, GearShark and BearPaw series again.

Until Next Time!

EXCERPT:

“How long has it been since you’ve had a shower?”

“Are you saying I stink?” I yelled.

“Yes,” she deadpanned.

I drew back, shock rendering me silent.

“Damn. Is that all I had to do to get you to shut up all this time? Just tell you, you stink?”

I low growl vibrated my throat. It hurt, but I didn’t stop.

Her eyes rolled. Their color was beautiful, reminding me of roasted chestnuts from street vendors around the holidays.

I wondered if I’d even be able to walk the street this year. My face would probably scare everyone.

“I’m asking because now that your bandages and stitches are removed, it would be a good time to shower off before I re-cover it all.”

“I haven’t had a shower since before. Only a couple sponge baths.” Then a piece of the old me slipped out, a piece I’d thought had been gone for good. Leaning in with a slight smirk and naughty whisper, I asked, “You offering to give me a sponge bath?”

Without missing a beat, she also leaned in. “I guess I am.”

The messy room fell away, and for a moment, I forgot I was a hideous, exposed beast overwhelmed with discomfort and cast aside by the people I’d trusted. All that remained was a pair of hickory eyes regarding me with sassy mirth. Her crimson-stained lips pursed, and my eyes lingered upon them, suddenly so incredibly hungry. Unlike mine, her skin was flawless, smooth, and richly pigmented.

She’s beautiful.

The long column of her neck was graceful and always exposed because the curls on her head were short and wild. My fingers itched to wrap around it, gripping with just enough force to possess her while my mouth devoured hers.

“What’s the matter, Ander? Not used to someone calling your bluff?” Her voice was amused but hushed, and something deep inside me howled in delight that she might not be as composed as she portrayed.

I leaned closer, noting the way her nostrils flared. We were so close now we shared the same breath. Hers smelled faintly of mint and was more rapid than before. “Who said I was bluffing?” I whispered.

Her cheeks turned slightly reflective, taking on a glossy sheen, and she pulled back, eyes flaring just a bit. She was flustered.

Author Bio:

Cambria Hebert is an award winning, bestselling novelist of more than twenty books. She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair.

Besides writing, Cambria loves a caramel latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching movies. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she’d rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chorkie (the real boss of the house).

Cambria has written within the young adult and new adult genres, penning many paranormal and contemporary titles. Her favorite genre to read and write is romantic suspense. A few of her most recognized titles are: The Hashtag Series, Text, Torch, and Tattoo.

Original Synopsis can be found here.

Once upon a time …

A boy is sired with poison in his veins. He cannot outrun the venom in his blood, so he escapes from those who put it there. Secreting away his darkest tendencies, he grows to become a friend, brother, bartender…
Huntsman.

A man who becomes exactly what he ran from, a villain of his own making.
A villain who falls in love with the one woman he is told to steer clear of.
Enchanted by a girl with hair as brilliant as the sun and innocence as potent as his corruption.

A girl locked away in a tower and told she will never walk again.
This boy doesn’t want to be the villain in her story. For once, he desires to be a hero.
Regrettably, his past creeps in like thick, winding fog, reaching wickedly for the one he loves the most. A hero is no match for the rotten tree from which he fell.
Once a huntsman, always a huntsman.
Poisoning guaranteed.

**Huntsman is a contemporary romance novel – a modern retelling of the fairy tale Tangled. It is recommended that you read Ivory White (House of Misfits #1) before diving into Huntsman. This book does not have a cliff hanger and has a HEA.

ANOTHER 5 Star Read!!!

There will never be a time where I don’t read a Cambria Hebert book. She is the author that I will always recommend to friends to read. The worlds she creates and the characters that she introduces us to never disappoint.

After finishing up the Hashtag and GearShark series, I didn’t think she would come up with another world that would totally suck me in. Somehow though the Misfits are really doing it.

When we were first introduced to Earth and Virginia in Ivory White I was excited to learn more about these characters. Earth especially, when we find out who he really was and how he was connected. (I can totally see him as Grumpy and upset when he’s trying to do what he was paid to do and then all of a sudden he can’t!)

I also love that while each book is interconnected you could totally read any one of them and know what was happening, (but why wouldn’t you want to read the others!) With all of the characters popping up in each of the books we get to see them again and again.

Earth is one of those characters that it doesn’t matter if he’s supposedly the bad guy, you really want to know more. With his book we get to see a different side to his personality.

Virginia is amazing, her desire for more in her life despite her circumstances, and her personality growth, just from when we saw her in Ivory White to this book was incredible.

And since I hate spoilers so much, I’ll just say that if you love retellings, this is an amazing modern Rapunzel retelling that everyone needs to read! And pretty much anything that Cambria writes.

Until Next Time!
