Hey Guys!
Can you believe how fast the fall semester went! I guess the third time is the charm is right. The third attempt to have school start up on a Monday was finally a success. Classes started on August 27th and as a graduate student, we were up and running. But here we are Winter/Christmas break upon us, so let’s see how I did for the semester.
As always idea credit for this goes to DaniDearest and I am so grateful for the idea.
Here’s my goals for this semester and how I did on them:
1. Get at least a B in my classes.
Result: ✓ Success! I can’t believe it myself, but I managed to get an A in my Gilded Age History course (I was in shock when I saw it) and a B in my Feminist Theory course. While I wasn’t too … enthused at some of the books that we had to read, I still had a good semester overall.
2. Try and get my assignments done before the day they are due.
Result: X/✓ Ehh… this was a semi win for me. For the most part… well at least for one class I was able to keep ahead. But my second class not so much. This probably has something to do with the fact that on top of my two classes, I was auditing a third and it put way too much on my plate.
3. Work out at least 2 times a week. (I’m going to make an effort, but we’ll see.)
Result: X Yea… nope. I think I worked a total of once this semester. When I went to a conference in October and I went to the hotel gym with a friend. Heck… if it wasn’t for the fact that one of my classes was being held in the Dugan (and there’s an Einstein Bagel there) I wouldn’t have even gone in there once this semester. And after a year of having a membership to Planet Fitness, and only going once… maybe twice I finally gave it up. So until I manage to at least go twice a week maybe more I’ll be keeping this on my list.
4. Try a fitness class on campus.
Result: X Yea… nope… see previous number!
5. Spend more time with my family and friends.
Result: ✓ I did pretty good with this one… even with me being so busy. I worked hard to make sure that I had time to spend with family and friends. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep going with this too.
6. Actually stick to my budget. (for food, or other things)
Result: X Yeah… nope. I need to do better on this.
7. Cook more, and take my own lunches for school.
Result: X/✓ I started out strong here, but about a month in slowed down and finally quit doing it. But I’m already planning on starting this up again come January.
8. Reach my activity goals on my watch each day/week.
Result: X/✓ hmmm… I’ve done better, but considering how much I took on during the semester (not only my two courses, but I audited a third) I didn’t do too bad. I had my two big papers for this one and a presentation for one class, as well as participating in a conference where I presented on a round table. My total for this semester was 71 out of 141. That’s about half where I closed my rings and there were some where I was close. I’m going to work on this in the new semester.
August 17/31 September 13/30 October 19/31 November 4/30 December 18/19
Total: 71/141
9. Post on each of the days I’ve assigned a post on HomeTownGirlWriter.
Result: X … Nope, yet again this was a major failure. Some weeks I had posts, and others not so much. If it hadn’t been for the book posts that I was doing for reveals I wouldn’t have anything to post. Not only do I still have the same hectic schedule, I added to it by accepting a graduate position. But I’m trying.
10. Expand my Photography business. (The tiny one that it is!)
Result: ✓ … I’ve been having some amazing photo shoots this semester. Since the summer I’ve had 9 photo shoots, and I’m hoping to keep steady with it. I’ve got one planned so far during the winter break. But I can’t wait to see what the new year will bring.
11. Save at least 10% of my paychecks each week.
Result: X … Nope, I’m not sure what happened this semester, but I totally slacked on this. Back to the grind on this for the time being.
12. Make my bed and pick up things in my room each morning. (In my hope for a clean room/house.)
Result: X … Nope, I dropped the ball on this one big time. I’m pretty sure my room looks like a bomb hit it. I keep trying but it just seems to get worse instead of better. Between my three jobs and a busier than usual semester, I’m gonna have to get a new game plan and try again.
13. Take time for myself each week.
Result: ✓ Completed! I made sure that each week I had at least 30 minutes to an hour for myself. Whether it was just to read a book that I wanted or to take a long bubble bath, it was my me time. I especially needed this because this last semester has been a really rough one. This is something that I’ll keep working towards as the semesters come and go.
14. Open my planner everyday and make sure it’s completed for the upcoming week.
Result: ✓ I’m not sure what I did before I started using my Happy Planner, I love my mini (although I do have a classic as well) and the fact that I can take it anywhere!
15. Have saved at least $500 by the end of the semester.
Result: ✓ Yep!!! I finally completed this. I’m working on getting better at saving my money.
16. Go somewhere I’ve never been before.
Result: ✓ Yep! I finally got to go to Dallas! A friend of my sister’s got married up there and I got to tag along, and we had a few stops along the way. We got to visit the Magnolia Silos (if you haven’t gone there yet you need to stop by!), and Ikea during this trip. It was amazing! I can’t wait to go back to the Silos and it shouldn’t be too long before the Ikea in San Antonio opens up.

Yea… I think I have my work cut out for me in the Spring 2019 semester. This is definitely one of the reasons that I love to have written down goals. It gives me a point that I need to improve and where I’m doing good.
Question of the day: How did you do on any goals that you set for your Fall 2018 semester? Comment down below.
