THE REVIEW
I’m pretty sure I say this every time she releases a new book… But Cambria Hebert has outdone herself! I’ve said it more than once, but all a book needs for me to one click buy it is Cambria’s name on it. It took me less than 8 hours to read Wet, while when starting and finishing Wingspan, it took me closer to 3 days, with the amount of excitement that is packed in these pages.
WINGSPAN is equal parts spicy and completely adorable with the ways in which Jamie is with Madison. The character development that takes place from when we meet both Jamie and Madison in Wet to their own story in Wingspan is phenomenal. We get complete devotion on a whole new level. I’m pretty sure I was texting my friend so much at each new surprise, that she was getting tired of me.
Jamie Owens is a member of Elite, Westbrook’s swim team, he’s also besties with Ryan, (also an Elite) but don’t think that this makes him second best. His specialty is the butterfly stroke (the best on the team if you ask him. Jamie is quite the ladies’ man until that is he meets Madison Hartley, when he and his best Bro Ryan, come to the ladies’ rescue in WET when they are attacked in the theatre. You’d think after the psycho is arrested they would get some peace, but the danger is still there waiting in the wings.
Madison Hartley is a theatre major that wants to become an actress and has absolutely no time for the heartbreaker that is Jamie. She’s used to being alone, even as popular as she is, and likes it that way. She pushes back at Jamie’s intensity until she can’t anymore, but she’s no pushover, she will absolutely give as good as she gets and will fight with everything she has. And don’t think she’ll hesitate to tell Jamie to shove it if she needs to. There was more than one spot in this book that had me laughing so hard that I had to stop to breathe, while at the same time had so many suspenseful moments that it left me shaken. The end of this had a twist that I didn’t see coming but at the same time made so much sense that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t figured it out before.
Cambria’s narration of Jamie and Madison’s story was so beautiful and like always has been able to drag the reader into the scenes with little problems. Just as with her other series, we are introduced to characters that I’m pretty sure will be getting their own stories eventually, and I for one can’t wait for the future of the Westbrook Elite series.
The bromance between Jamie and Ryan is rivaling Romeo and Braedon in its intensity, and the friendships that we see growing here are coming out to match our Hashtag family. I will continue to reread both WET and WINGSPAN until the next book is finished and released, this series might just become my next comfort series besides Hashtag and Gearshark.
